Independent retailers can help the committee see enforcement clearly
Every day, independent stores make the rule real at the counter. That experience should be part of the Bill 208 review before the committee writes recommendations.
What retailers know
Retailers see which customers are adults, which products are requested, how age checks work in practice, and where enforcement gaps appear. That does not make retailers the only voice, but it makes them a necessary one.
Briefing points for members
- Document refusal-of-sale procedures and staff training.
- Explain how inspections are handled and what guidance is unclear.
- Describe competition from sellers outside the regulated channel from sellers that do not follow the same rules.
- Recommend AGLC-style accountability that can be applied consistently.
Network position
Strong rules are easier to support when responsible stores can follow them, prove compliance, and compete on a level field.
